JFK Students Get Behind-the-Scenes Look at Louisiana Supreme Court

Students from John F. Kennedy High School recently got a behind-the-scenes look into the workings of the state’s highest court.

The students visited the Louisiana Supreme Court as guests of Louisiana Supreme Court Justice John Weimer. Weimer discussed with students how the Supreme Court works before holding a question-and-answer period with them.

New Beginnings Schools Foundation CEO Kevin George accompanied the students on the visit and said students got a lot out of the experience and that he was impressed with the questions asked.

“We want to expose our kids and give them as many experiences as possible to peak their interests,” he said. “We will just continue to expose our kids to these things so we can continue to expand their horizons and expand their knowledge of what is right here in their own backyard.”

Students also heard one hour of oral arguments before taking a tour of the law library.

“I was impressed by the students from JFK High School, who were attentive, polite and, obviously, very bright,” Weimer said. “It was rewarding to me to visit with one of my favorite former students, Kevin George, who is now himself a teacher.”
