Kevin George Named CEO

Kevin R. George has been named chief executive officer of the New Beginnings School Foundation.

Mr. George brings with him more than 20 years of experience in education as a superintendent, Louisiana Department of Education Deputy Network Leader, district level supervisor, principal, assistant principal and teacher.

“I was brought in to do one thing and that is to lift this organization from its knees and prepare it to be the awesome educational institution we know it can be. We will demand and require excellence from all stakeholders while preparing to hand over our schools to another charter management organization,” George said. “We will rebuild trust within our students, our community and our schools. That’s the New Beginnings way.”

Mr. George most recently served as the superintendent of the St. John the Baptist Parish Public School District. During his time in St. John the Baptist Parish, Mr. George increased the district letter grade from a C to a B, making it one of only two districts in the state to achieve such a high grade while serving a student population with more than 86 percent of its students classified as economically disadvantaged.

In addition to his many positions, Mr. George has been appointed to several statewide committees including the influential Superintendents’ Advisory Council, the Advisory Council of Student Behavior and Discipline and the Alternative Education Study Group. He chaired the Commission on Assessment Review and Use in Public Schools and was recognized by the national VH1 Save the Music Foundation as its Superintendent of the Year.

Mr. George was also selected to participate in the Southern Education Foundation’s Racial Equity Leadership Network and the prestigious Broad Academy, a two-year fellowship that helps urban school system leaders develop their leadership and accelerate their impact on behalf of the students and families they serve. He has presented at national conferences on topics such as equitable outcomes for all students and building systems to support teaching and learning.

Mr. George attended Nicholls State University where he participated in football and track, earned two bachelor’s degrees and a master’s in administration and supervision. He completed graduate school with a perfect 4.0 GPA and was inducted into the honorary academic fraternity of Phi Kappa Phi, Inc.
